If you’re anything like us (the busy folks who run the campsite) then one of the morning’s top priorities is coffee. And when you’re camping, we know it usually comes down to if it’s hot and wet, it’ll do. But at the New Inn we’re committed to making your experience with us the best it can be and as such, we’ve invested in a shiny new (to us) espresso machine*! From now, you can roll out of your sleeping bag and stagger down to the bar to get a warming cup of your favourite brew without having to touch a camping stove. We’ve all been there, shivering outside the tent when the weather is less than ideal, waiting for that pot of water to start bubbling; we say – no more.
I will place the disclaimer that there is a bit of an art to using it and so to please bear with us as we embrace this new learning curve, we might not nail the cappuccino froth every time but we’ll give it a good try!
Now, coffee is not just a morning drink, and after you’ve been out exploring the local scenery a bit of afternoon tea may well be in order. Thankfully, we have also begun stocking high quality cakes from Sidoley’s and will regularly have black forest gateaux, cheesecakes, lemon drizzle and a vegan tart on offer to accompany your caffeinated beverage, with a discount available for purchasing coffee and a cake together.
We hope this is a welcome addition, as a small family run site we always welcome your ideas and feedback so feel free to come and chat to us the next time you’re down. We have more expansions and plans in the works to make sure that the New Inn is more than just a campsite.
Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to get the latest news and updates as soon as they happen.
The New Inn – Fresh Coffee, Cold Beer, Happy Camping.
*The installation of this coffee machine involved many hours from myself and Leigh trekking to various hardware stores trying to find the very specific inlet pipe required, only to be met with dumbfounded looks from the store staff as they had never seen anything like it. After more hours spent trawling the internet we found one retailer selling the pipe we needed and so we crossed our fingers and hit order.
Days later it arrived – along with the adapter we had to order to get it hooked up to some regular width plumbing. 30 minutes later and with some expert handiwork from Leigh, the coffee machine was attached to the mains. I read the manual in the meantime to make sure we followed the correct start up procedure. Finally, satisfied that we had done everything we could to ensure normal operation, we turned it on. After 15 minutes of concerning sounding gargling from the machine, it finally got up to pressure, and held.
Tipping some coffee grounds which we’d ground using my hand grinder (we hadn’t bought an electric one yet as we wanted to make sure it worked first) we tentatively hit the ‘single shot espresso’ button, and held our breath. More gargling, then the glorious brown liquid came pouring out. We grabbed the mug, and took the first sip – it was COLD!?!? Referring back to the manual once again it said we needed to wait an additional 15 minutes for all the pipework to get up to temperature. With a bit more patience expended, we finally had our first successful hot coffee in hand.
